In this sit down chat with our President, Lindsay shares some of our excitement around the evolution of our Bike Park. Although we’ve long been know for our technical mountain bike trails, we’ve been working hard to bring more beginner to intermediate flow trails to the mountain so riders of all ages and abilities can learn with us. And recently, with the addition of our top-to-bottom beginner flow trail, Ebascootcha, it is truly the dawn of a new era for the Bolton Valley Bike Park.

And just like that, another winter in the books. Thank you to all the friends, staff, locals, visitors, volunteers, and veterans of Bolton Valley for making this season another success. It takes a village to run an Independent Ski Mountain and we are extremely grateful to have a support system of caring individuals who hustle all season long year after year making sure we can get folks outside in the winter.

Here’s a recap of some of the fun we’ve had this season. Skiing and Snowboarding can really bring people together as we have seen, so here’s to the friends and memories we made this year, and here’s looking forward to an awesome summer of swimming, biking, disc golf, music, and more. We’ll see you back around the mountain real soon, and thanks again!

Anyone who’s skied Bolton Valley knows about the pitches and potential perils of the access road. The serpentine strip that stands between skiers and those sweet snowy slopes can be difficult for modern vehicles to traverse, so in the 1970’s when cars were all rear-wheel-drive, it did not take much to create a jam that blocked the flow of traffic in both directions. In this episode of Story Time with Ralph, our fearless founder Ralph Deslauriers recounts the tale of a particularly inventive solution to a recurring problem.

In this episode Ralph talks about one of the most sought-after positions on the Bolton Valley crew, the driving of the pusher trucks. Even Ralph himself would take turns as few other jobs on the mountain were quite as fun as driving a modified pickup truck up and down the winding dirt road of Bolton Vermont. Stay tuned for more origin stories of our beloved mountain as we kick off Season 3 of Story Time with Ralph!

As we round out our opening week, spirits are high in the Valley. From front-desk to food prep, the first week of running lifts is an all-hands operation. The snow-making team is cranking out the volume for our grooming team to sculpt, the ski-school team is jumping right into our after-school program, and the marketing team is running around bothering everyone else to document their progress! We caught up with a couple of friendly faces from our fantastic family of fun-loving folks to see what they’re most excited for this season.

Saturday came out swinging with an idyllic first-day combination of a bluebird morning and a flurry-filled eve, setting the tone for an exciting return to the hill. We spun Mighty Mite and Mid-Mountain to Beech Seal, and officially opened up our designated uphill route for the pass-holding public. The lift-lines were comfortably filled with old friends of the mountain and enthusiastic first-timers eager to carve. After our first-ever summer running mountain bike lifts, everyone is excited to be back on snow.

The positive energy among the crew has been palpable, with everyone jumping to lend one another a hand as we continue to roll out preparations for more trails to open. The new food options like Miso Toh Kome, the new base lodge cafe, and our new head chef Pete in the James Moore Tavern were also hot topics among the staff as the food selection here on the mountain continues to expand. Whether it’s about the terrain, the food, or the return of friends, the general consensus is the same; it’s going to be an awesome winter.

The mountain bike program is blossoming up here for Summer 2021, and our downhill mountain bike coaches/camp counselors got a weekend full training before the season really kicks off. Coaches learned about lots of technical aspects of sport, and also how to coach beginner to intermediate riders down some of the more challenging terrain the Bolton Valley has to offer.

In this video, Harlan from PMBIA gives us a run down of what happened up here this weekend! We will be offering mountain bike lessons and coaching this summer for people looking to dive deeper into biking at Bolton Valley!

Some days the whole world thinks the conditions are terrible and there’s going to be crazy crowds anyway and you’re better off just staying home. Sunday, December 27, 2020, just two days after the brutal Grinch Storm that befell the entire northeast on Christmas Day (carrying A LOT of r**n with it) came and went without a lot of fanfare around here frankly.

Our Mountain Ops team did a great job putting everything back together Saturday just in time for 5″ of fresh snow Saturday into Sunday. Amazing what a little assist from Mother Nature can do to fill in the gaps and soften things up.

And so it was, Sunday morning of the first “peak” holiday weekend of the season and here we were with a slow start to a pow day. So we sent one of our instructors out to show us a casual lap on Sherman’s Pass off Vista Lift mid to late morning. As you can see, pretty mellow and fun.

How do you Sherman?

Show us with #HowToSherman on Sherman’s Pass trail or #BoltonSideHits anywhere else on mountain. We’ll be sending it on this blog, our Instagram feed, and the Bolton Valley YouTube channel and to a lesser degree our Facebook feed… or write it in the snow, take a polaroid and snail mail it to your Nana. All good.

Hope to see you around the mountain soon!

It’s December 2nd, and while we wish we could be open right now… this video certainly puts things into perspective. Yes. Mother Nature has dealt us a difficult early season hand, but at least we have a finished resort to call ours and family in charge that we know will do everything possible to push Bolton Valley in the right direction!

Ever since the humble beginnings of Bolton Valley, Ralph DesLauriers and his family have always been willing to do whatever it takes to be ready for winter. In this episode, Ralph discusses how he and his crew came up with the money needed to finish the construction of Bolton Valley before the original Opening Weekend!

We’re not open today, and we won’t be open tomorrow, but there’s a crew of hard working individuals working night and day to make sure that we make our new targeted opening date of Dec 11th. So sit back, relax, and enjoy this episode of Story Time with Ralph. Colder temps are on the way, and we’ll all be smiling down the mountain before we know it.
