TWO SPORTS. TWO COMPETITIONS. ONE BIG PARTY.

Join us Saturday April 5th for the revival of the Bolton Valley Spring Thing! It’s our first time doing a pond skim in 10 years, and the first time we’ve ever had mountain bike racing on snow the same day. We’re excited to send the ski season off with a bang and have a big old Bolton Beach Themed party. In addition to the Mountain Bike Dual Slalom and the pond skim, there will also be snow volleyball, a vendor village, prizes, plus live music by DJ Johnny Utah and bluegrass pickers Tallgrass Getdown. This is not a day you want to miss!

And for the 3rd straight year of Corporate Race League, we will not have a repeat champion this year! Congratulations to Team Beer – your first title, if we’re not mistaken? Team Gnarl back in the place they end up every so often – when they don’t win the whole darn thing which is far more frequent – that is to say, second place. Not too shabby. And Frost Beer Works, welcome (back?) to the podium!

Beer, Gnarl, Beer… nothing to see here…

Noticing a theme here – are hops performing enhancing? Might have to start testing folks dancing skills at the starting gate – only quick and easy way to tell if they’re on the sauce getting an unfair advantage, I reckon.

See week by week results from the 2022-23 CRL season below.

Who’s ready to do it all over again in winter 2023-24? We sure are…

Dropping Into the Ski Industry: My Takeaways https://www.boltonvalley.com/winter/dropping-into-the-ski-industry-my-takeaways/ Mon, 30 Jan 2023 18:27:51 +0000 https://www.boltonvalley.com/?p=32765 Hey Skiers and riders, my name is Zoe Rogers and I am the newest addition to the Bolton Valley Marketing

Hey Skiers and riders, my name is Zoe Rogers and I am the newest addition to the Bolton Valley Marketing Squad! As a recent graduate of Saint Michael’s College I am passionate about the Vermont community and all things mountain sports.

Growing up in Shelton CT, I spent countless hours driving up north to ski Vermont’s northern mountains. This challenged my skiing knowledge and abilities #SKITHEEAST

I couldn’t be happier to presently be exploring the amazing wonders of Bolton Valley and provide you an insider scoop on all things Ski & Ride (and of course après).

On my first day my coworkers asked my goal for days on snow, only having 2 days under my belt, I confidently answered 20 days. They all laughed as I was clueless to the joke I had made. As I now write this I have logged 24 days on the slopes. My new goal is 50 days which will be a personal best. After just 3 weeks on the job, it is undeniable how much of a community Bolton Valley is. Everyone works together and helps each other out to execute and partake in our wonderful events such as music, corporate race league & babe force, to name a few. The ski culture and community is all about challenging yourself, helping others and appreciating the beauty that surrounds us, and Bolton Valley is no exception. I am grateful for this opportunity to have what is not just a leisure activity be my job as well.

This experience has already taught me what it takes to make a mountain operate seamlessly. Boot rental lessons for fitting properly, what good snowmaking weather really is, the excitement when dropping those ropes to open fresh terrain, and how to execute an event from beginning to end are just a few of the things I have learned and experienced so far. Most importantly, I am learning how to capture all of these experiences and share them with the rest of you!

Stay tuned to see what else Bolton is going to be up to this winter!!

It’s here folks, Timberline lift and lodge open this weekend for the season, and it is going to be a very good time. We’ll be serving free coffee until 10am in the newly-renovated Timberline Lodge, so parking at that lot and taking the lift up is a smart play this weekend. The bar will be open with light snacks, donuts, draft beer, soft drinks, and friendly faces starting at 9 when the lift spins.

At 11am we have an extra treat for the Timby enthusiasts, with the El Gato Food Truck posting up in the Timberline Lot from 11-4. Get some turns in and then get some tacos, it truly does not get a whole lot better than that. There’s been over 20″ of fresh snow accumulation in the last week, and there are still hidden gems all over the mountain. Come on out to Wilderness, Timberline, or Vista and see for yourself, the mountain is fantastic right now. For the Saturday late-crowd, don’t forget to catch local favorites “The Fog” playing in the Tavern at 8:30!

Whether you’re coming up to cruise the groomers or blast through natural terrain, dance to a band or get something to eat, this weekend is going to be undeniably awesome.

The verdict is in, and this is going to be the best winter ever. Up here at 2,100 feet, we’re all excited to ski with our old friends and have a blast in the Northern Vermont Outdoors. Surfaces are waxed, edges are tuned, zippers are repaired, goggles are see-through-able enough for another year (nice), and everybody is ready to do the whole thing all over again. In just a short matter of weeks, the summer fun has fully transitioned operations and scaled up for the excitement of winter.

The mountain is abuzz with people zipping about (often on our new Taiga electric snowmobiles). Ski Patrol and Mountain Operations continue to perform all the crucial tasks that keep the moving parts in place. There’s nothing quite like the changing of the seasons at a ski resort. Triple-tray mountain bike lifts are replaced with passenger chairlifts through the expert finessing of yellow machines as the bike shop is packed away in lieu of a cafe area for folks who will soon arrive in waves of click-clacking ski boots. There’s a back-to-school excitement around the base as the new employees join ranks of Lift Operations and Ski School, making connections with their peers from an all-too-small Vermont Ski scene and filling up their schedules for the busy winter season. Time for the riders.

There were clear skies all weekend after a long stretch of those sweet sweet snow-making temperatures, which is exactly what we were hoping for to get us started strong this year. The natural snow on top was just a welcome little bonus, stirring the pot even further for everyone waiting for their first laps. Mighty Mite, Mid-Mountain and Snowflake started us off with the first 3 days of this winter, and the surface was dreamy. The park scene has kicked off fully with Hideaway Terrain Park playing epicenter for the more trick-inclined skiers and riders on the hill. There were people pushing themselves to learn new tricks right out of the gate, there were those getting their legs back and warming up slowly, and there were others still who got their first few spills out of the way early on.

The bottom line is, everybody’s excited. We’re making more snow this year. The new Timberline Lodge is serving free coffee on weekend mornings, and has a bar with Italian food-service in the afternoons. There will be Live Music on Wednesdays and Saturdays all winter long in the James Moore Tavern and Fireside. There’s a lot going on this year to look forward to and frankly we’re just ready to get it started!

The UVM cycling club had their home races on the hill this past weekend. The contest consisted of two cross-country mountain bike races, and two downhill races. The contestants began early saturday morning with a cross-country bout on the “pup trails” our free-use cross-country mtb circuit beginning below the parking lot from the sports center. From there the athletes took to the lifts, with the track set for Racecourse > Wright Brothers, with 150 or so racers taking to the dirt. There were racing representatives from UVM, MIT, UMass, UNH, Harvard, RIT, Penn State, UMaine, and many more eastern collegiate powerhouses.

The sun is setting on our summer full of fun but fret not! The most visually vibrant time of year approaches. Join us as we track the changing of leaves over the next couple of weeks culminating in the ever-coveted “peak foliage” palette. Last year the peak landed on the first week of October, but with a substantial difference in this summer’s heat and precipitation, who’s to say! We’ll be keeping track of the progress of autumnal decay right here on the Bolton Valley Blog, and don’t forget that our Base Area Webcams can always provide a quick glimpse of tree color in real-time!

Whether you’re coming up for the late-season biking flow, looking for a nice fall hike, or taking in a vista with our scenic lift rides, use this page as a handy resource to keep track of our mountain’s ever-changing colors.
